5 Reasons Why You Should Read to Your Kids

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

We’re always told that reading is SUPER important. But I feel for young children, its even more important to be read to. Here are 5 Reasons why I think you should read to your kids:

1.) Builds relationships. We can often get so caught up in our lives that at times, we don’t give our kids the attention they deserve. Reading to your child ensures that they are receiving your full attention and strengthens your bond with them. It gives you a chance to talk to your child with no distractions. (Unless of course you have more than one child, and one of them just won’t stop interrupting… I feel ya!)

2.) Increases their vocabulary and understanding. Reading exposes the child to a wide range of words and ideas which they use to build their own vocabulary. It’ll take you by surprise when your toddler uses a new word correctly!

3.) Helps the child speak. As well as learning new words, reading improves your child’s enunciation skills. They pick up correct word pronunciation, word usage, and proper grammar.

4.) Increases their attention span / improves listening skills. Any time my kids start acting crazy and I need to calm them down, I suggest a story and that usually does the trick. Though sometimes works against me because then they don’t want to stop. “One more book!”…. “Last one!” …”Real last one!”

5.) Its fun! (Majority of the time) Especially if you’re animated and use different voices/sound effects. It can totally be a right laugh with your kids!

These are just my reasons. There are countless others. Let me know yours in the comments below.
